Tom Petty Show

Jamie and I went to the Amphitheater @ Clark County last night for the Tom Petty show. We saw him last year @ the Gorge Amphitheater and knew that we were in for a treat. Petty makes sure to play long sets and to make sure you leave the show in awe. Being that we had seen him before, we weren’t really expecting anything new, other than a couple songs off of his new album, Highway Companion. We did expect though, a very entertaining and energetic show. We were correct on the latter.

While Petty was introducing his band, which BTW is freakin’ AWESOME, he said they have had an “honorary member” and then introduced Stevie Nicks. The crowd went wild, as did Jamie and I. If you are any true fan of Petty, you know that he and Stevie perform beautifully together. It was a real treat, and very unexpected. Also, he played my favorite song off of his new album, Flirting w/ Time, for the very first time live. He said he had not played it live before. So we were the first to see it. It was wonderful.

Petty played through the majority of his “Greatest Hits” and MAN!, does he put a twist on some of those songs, that make them even more enjoyable live. He is truly, IMO, one of the best musicians to ever live. Trey Anastasio, the front man of Phish, opened for Petty. I really have not listened to much of Phish or Trey, but after seeing him live, I surely will. Trey played from 730-830. Petty put on a long show as usual, 9-1130. Every minute of that was spectacular.

We had never been to the Amphitheater @ Clark County before as it is a new venue that hasn’t had a show that we really wanted to see. We were thoroughly impressed with its sound quality and atmosphere. It is a bit smaller than the Gorge Amphitheater, but the sound was very comparable. Jamie and I got there 2 hours early so we could lay our blanket down on the prime real estate in the GA lawn seating. And that we did. We had a perfect view under the beautiful sky and we had a great crowd around us. Jamie and I danced the entire evening. All said, there was an estimate of 14,000 people there. I am sure each and every one had a blast. I will rank this venue as my 2nd favorite now.

Only one more show for Jamie and I this summer. Dave Matthews Band and OAR Fri. September 1st. I still need to get Sat. September 2nd tickets. Shouldn’t be a problem as I am still seeing them for cost on craigslist.
