Unions

What the heck is going on with our government... or better yet New York's government? They are not only fining the TWU and its members, they are now threatening jail time. Come on! Now don't get me wrong, I am not union fanatic. There are a good number of companies that have no need for unions. Those are the companies that treat their employees like humans. However, when there is an existing union, shouldn't they be allowed to strike? Isn't that what being in a union is all about? Out government should not be able to throw people in jail because they go on strike. Going on strike is a freedom of living in a democracy. Telling people you are going to jail if you do not work is forced labor and should not be tolerated. These people need our support and I hope that they all stick it out and strike as long as they need to. My brother is longeshoreman in the ILWU and when their union last went on strike, 2 members were shot and killed by the police and the government brought in the army to unload the ships.

My only thing with it is that they are costing the city of NYC about $400 million per day with this strike. Seems ironic that they are trying to get more money out of the government by putting the economy in crisis. I certainly don't think they should be arrested or shot, but I think they are kind of selfish for picking Christmas time to pull all this stuff.

Selfish!?!?! Remember the city made the decision to not meet their demands. That $400 million a day costs much more a day than meeting the demands of the union even. It is the city's choice.
